Jack glanced up while Jean was talking. "Phoenix Force". It made him feel something, something that would have been a memory, if he'd had any. What did it mean? Was it connected to his past, or was it just his mind playing tricks on him?

Jean spoke directly to Jack's mind. "Not now Jack. Believe me, you don't want to go there. At least right now."

Jack knew better than to doubt Jean. He didn't know why, but he knew it couldn't hurt to listen. He let the "memory" or whatever it was, drift back to the darker part of his mind, behind the steel wall that kept him from his past. He'd leave it there for now, but he knew it would turn up again.

"Come on, don't be shy. Any questions?"

Pearl raised her hand. "Do you think there is a possibility there is more to our powers than we know? I'm fairly new to this, so is there a possibility that we have more powers or even different powers than we realize?"

"Well, I don't think you have different powers - for example if you've discovered you have telepathic powers, you're most likely not going to suddenly become a metamorph. But yes, you will always be rediscovering your powers. I didn't even know I had the power of the Phoenix Force until about a year ago. Sometimes you will discover new depths to your powers, and sometimes it's just a matter of training, of learning to control them. I believe you will grow to have much greater power over time than you currently have."

Door smiled at Pearl - she knew she was worried about her powers emerging.

Jean leaned towards Pearl. "Make sense?"

Jack listened closely. He'd been wondering the same thing. Was he more dangerous than he thought he was?

"Jack - did you have something you wanted to say?" Being a teacher, it helped being telepathic.

Dream looked at Jack and smiled, hoping to be encouraging.

Jack started when she addressed him. He shook his head quickly. There was no reason to open his mouth right now.

Jack shook his head and looked away. He hesitated until the silence got to him, then whispered, "What if my powers hurt someone. What if they already have, and I don't remember?"

Jean looked at him intently. "I understand Jack. I understand, because, that's exactly what happened to me. I hurt a lot of people. My situation is different, what happened to me is not going to happen to any of you for reasons I wont go into now. But I'm not going to lie. We have powers. And there is the possibility that our powers could hurt someone. Even Dream, though in a different way. That's the reason that you're here. To give you the best chance possible that that will never happen. Sometimes powers go awry, but 99.9% of the time someone getting hurt is the result of a mutant intending to hurt that person, and I know that none of you would ever intentionally hurt someone. That's why you're here, and what seporates us from mutants like Magneto." Jean looked at Door, hoping she hadn't offended her. "Human life is more important than anything."
"Think of it this way, once you get your drivers license and you're behind the wheel of a car, there's always a possibility that you could get into an accident. That's why you take precautions, why you LEARN to drive a car."
"And Jack, if you have hurt someone, well, we'll just take that as it comes. Believe me, you wouldn't be the first mutant. But what's important is what you choose to do now. I know that you're a good person. I don't believe you've ever hurt someone, but even if you have, I know for SURE that you would never do so now."
Jean looked at them, hoping they had been receptive.
