Dream sat quietly in a corner of the library - sprawled on the floor on some pillows. She didn't seem to be reading, rather running her fingers over the epic illustrations in old, worn out books. Images of the sea, light hitting the water, and olive tree in the background.

Luke didn't usually go to the library, but it was early, so he figured it would be empty. He walked through the shelves and saw a girl in the back, alone. He went over to her and waved. "Hi. Name's Luke."

Dream gave a sort of half smile. "The Fantasia" she said. "Or Dream if you prefer. I have many names." She stared at him intently. Some people found it disconcerting, but it was just in her nature. She could sense...what was it...more nightmares than dreams in him. She wasn't sure about him...

Luke felt an urge to escape when he noticed the tingle down his spine that meant he was being analyzed telepathically. He resisted it, though, and smiled at her. "Hello, Dream. I'm new here." He wasn't really, he'd just spent the first week of his time here holed up in his room. He finally decided he should get out and get to know people. Maybe start a little trouble, while he was at it. The next day was Monday, and he'd be taking classes. He wasn't too keen on that. "What are your powers?"

Dream smiled. She had a feeling he knew all about her, even if he didn't realize it was HER. She just looked back down at her book and didn't say anything. Finally after a long moment she said, "I don't really like to share my powers." Then she looked up. "Yes. I'm THAT Fantasia" and her face almost became hard - like she was warning him not to take advantage of her.

He stared at her quizzically. 'THAT Fantasia'? He had no idea what Fantasia was supposed to mean. He understood if she liked to keep her powers to herself, but what was with the glare? He swallowed and apologized, his accent returning to him. "Oi... Oi didn't mean anything by it, love. Oi didn't know ye were one o' those anti-social types." He inwardly cursed himself. He'd tried so hard to cover that accent for seven long years. He realized he was fidgetting and got angry. "Surrey Oi've bothered ye." He turned and left the section, hurt beyond words. He spent a week locked in a room, and the first person he met treated him like scum. Typical Yanks. What did 'THAT Fantasia' mean? Did she think she was famous or something? Like he was supposed to know who she was? What a priss. Why was he so upset? People who'd tried to kill him hadn't aroused this kind of anguish in him. Maybe he thought these people would be different...

"Wait!" called Dream. Beautiful fairy wings unfolded and Dream floated over to him. "Look at the table" she said. There - where nothing had been lying before was an ornate book. It opened of it's own accord and flipped through various mythical beings, legends, etc. It rested open on a page titled "The Fantasia" this is what it said:
"The Fantasia is a mythical being referenced as far back as Ancient Greek and Celtic mythology. Said to be the root of the myths of the Phoenix, Mermaid, and Fairy, The Fantasia was said to be able to survive in any substance - water, fire, air, and even earth, meaning that nothing can kill her, except for a broken heart (some have tried to kill her by this method, especially after she refused to help their evil designs with her magic. Once it is said she was imprisoned for over one hundered years.) The Fantasia is said to hold the power of dreams and illusion - a mind and dream reader, she can make anyone's dream appear to come to life.
No one knows what the Fantasia's true form is..."
Dream smiled up at Luke. "So you can see why I'm a little anti social myself" she said.

Luke stopped and read where she indicated. He nodded. "Not your fault. At least ye got a better excuse then Oi have." He pointed out. He was getting too worked up. "'Nothing can kill her'? So, you're invincible, aye?"

"Except for a broken heart." Dream didn't like saying it, but she had built up enough of a wall to at least state the fact without panic. "That doesn't mean I'm great at attacking someone else - though my....dreams are very real. But it does mean I can't be killed. Can be captured though. See I can't move through objects like stone - they just don't hurt me. As if I'm made of the same substance as them." Dream smiled, trying to hide a single tear that was rolling down her cheek. She HAD been imprisoned - for 100 years. She didn't even know how old she was. Sometimes her immortality was far more of a burden than a blessing.

Luke looked at her. He saw the tear and reached out, brushing it away. He immediately drew his hand away, in case she was offended. He was calm enough that his accent had faded again. "Sorry. I..." He felt something he didn't recognize. It made him remember the day he left, unable to tell his family goodbye. Sorrow, he guessed. "Please don't cry." He hadn't seen tears in so long. He'd forgotten humans could cry. Well, she wasn't exactly human. All the same, it was a shock to him, knowing only a life of trouble and pain.

Dream just smiled up at him - touched by his act of kindness. Maybe there was more good than bad in him. "I never got to say goodbye to my family either" she said. "I was imprisoned for one hundred years. And then...well...I never knew what happened. I'm sorry. I wasn't probing your mind - it was just - written there, on your face.
I cry a lot actually. I just try not to let people see. You'd think I would have had a hundred broken hearts by now. I don't know how anything could be worse. But I just keep going. I usually hide in the fire place. No one can see me really in there."

Luke didn't mind even if she was probing him. As long as she didn't dig too deep. He smiled at her. "There's nothing wrong with that, Dream."

Dream looked up at him. "You know, I think you're the first person to ever say that to me." Dream suddenly had the urge to kiss him Why! She barely knew him. Besides, she COULDN'T get emotionally attached to anyone. It was too dangerous.

He smiled again. "But don't hide. Nothing like you should be hidden away."

Dream laughed slightly. "I'm afraid that's all I do" she said. "No one knows the real me - even what I look like. When people are interested in me, it's just to get to my powers. They are greatly desirable. Professor X thinks i'm the most sought after mutant of all time. Most people think of me as a genie. It's probably a good thing most people think I'm just a myth."
