It was just past sunset, dark, but with a faint light still hanging over the horizon.
Jack looked around and realized there was nothing to be packed. As he moved toward the window, he turned back, changing his mind. He gingerly picked up Jack the Turtle from the shoe box he was keeping him in and dropped the tiny creature into his shirt pocket. Then he grabbed his book bag and tossed some clothes in, then carefully packed away Zombie's snow globe, careful not to look directly at the little tower that seemed to reel him into his memories. He stuffed more clothes on top of it.
He glanced around once more, then climbed out the window. It was fairly easy to get down, as there was the classic oak-tree-right-outside-the-window. He climbed down the tree and ran toward the gates, a hand over his pocket to keep the turtle from falling out. He squeezed through the gap he'd found earlier in the bars and hit the road. He cast one last glance at the place which had been his only home this last month. He shook his head. "They'll be safer without me..."
He walked along the highway all night. Finally, the sun was rising. The sky went from black to a pewter color. It was overcast today. Figuring the sun would stay hidden all day, Jack continued walking.
(OOC: Wolverine posts next, after he leaves the school.)

Logan ran to the garage after talking to Jean. He took the bike with the sidecar, tossed a helmet in, and gunned the engine. He sniffed the air, then shot through the gates and down the highway. He went about twice the speed limit, angered beyond reason.

Jack came to the top of a hill and looked down into a little valley, There was a large town there, bustling with people. Jack was starting to regret not wearing a jacket as snow swirled around his feet. He shivered and descended into the valley town. He hadn't been outside much since the day he was brought in a month ago in that storm. In twenty minutes he was in the town, among the people. He gingerly stepped through the crowd, trying not to touch anyone.
He bumped into someone and noticed the man's wallet was halfway out of his back pocket. Jack snatched it, surprised by his ability to do so without alerting the man. He stuck the wallet in his own pocket and walked away. He did the same to two other men and crept toward the alleys, trying to escape the crowd.

Logan approached a hill and saw the town on the other side. If Jack was down there, he'd chosen the right direction. But would Jack be inclined to be around so many people? Logan didn't know or care. He sped into the town, right into the square, looking for Jack. With all the other people there, it was almost impossible to discern him. But he did. He glanced toward an alleyway, pulled the bike into it, and got off. He ran down the alley after Jack.

Jack had seen Logan ride into the center of town and flipped out. He put Jack the Turtle, as a foresight, into his bookbag and left it at the end of the alley, then booked, running full speed down the alley, shocked at how fast he could run when he was scared. The walls and ground were a blur as he raced to exit the alley and hide in the crowd, but suddenly there was a sharp, tearing pain in his leg, shooting through his side. He screamed and tripped, hitting the ground hard. Despite the almost mind-numbing pain, he forced himself to stand and keep running.

Logan was amazed at Jack's speed, but he was still catching up fast. He saw Jack crash headlong to the ground and knew something was wrong. The kid stood up and kept running. "Jack stop! Stop now!" He called after him. Realizing Jack would run until it killed him, Logan sped up, finally catching up to Jack and grabbing him around the waist, stopping him.

Jack yelped when Logan caught him. He felt himself go limp, having no strength left now that it was hopeless anyway. He tried to catch his breath, but found he couldn't breathe at all without searing pain filling his lungs. The pain was tremendous. What was wrong with him?

Logan placed Jack on the ground. The kid had no idea what he was doing. He'd litterally run himself ragged. He must have pulled several muscles trying to run from him. Logan shook his head and cursed. "Jack, you idiot. No one runs like that!" He'd have waited for a response, but Jack wasn't going to talk any time soon breathing the way he was. Logan lifted Jack, ignoring his winces, and took him back to the bike. He set him in the sidecar and tossed him the helmet.

Jack gasped. "W-wuh-wait... m-my bag..." He wheezed, reaching for the box it was hidden behind. He couldn't leave Zombie's gifts there. Especially not poor little Jack the Turtle.

Logan paused and went to where Jack indicated. He found the bag and handed it to Jack, then forced the helmet on the kid before taking off back to the mansion. He didn't say a word the whole way. He finally got back to the mansion and pulled Jack out of the sidecar. He picked him up and took him inside. He put Jack on a bench in the entrance hall and entered the teacher's lounge again.
